A former beggar who has a handicap and was illiterate at age 16 transformed his setbacks into the blueprint that allowed him to become a doctor at age 31 in 2019, and his name is Dr. Li Chuangye, also known as the “Miracle Doctor,” who is an inspiring entrepreneur running his own Yunnan Medical Clinic in China. Born in 1988 in Henan Province, Li Chuangye’s life was altered at just seven months old when he contracted poliomyelitis (which led to cerebral palsy). At age 9, after a failed surgery intended to correct his legs, he was targeted by a criminal organization that forced him to beg on the streets across China for seven years. The shift occurred at age 16 when he realized that he was completely illiterate and tired of a life of begging, and Li managed to escape the criminals and returned home. He made the radical decision to start primary school at 16, sitting in classrooms with children a decade younger than him but his determination allowed him to fast-track his education. During his studies, he used his own body as a clinical case study for his classmates and has pledged to donate his body to medical science upon his death. In 2019, at age 31, Li graduated as a doctor and after a brief stint as a medical editor, he followed his heart and opened his own clinic where his grateful patients nicknamed him the “Miracle Doctor” for his compassionate care, expertise, and ability to connect deeply with those facing their own struggles. Beyond the clinic, Dr. Li Chuangye is a talented mountaineer as he conquered China’s Five Sacred Mountains, Huangshan, and even sections of the Great Wall.
“A person’s biggest enemy is themselves. Failures and difficulties are just the stairways on our path.” — Dr. Li Chuangye
